Why order a Statewide Criminal?
Research Services offers statewide criminal reports that go back at a minimum of seven years and cover the entirety of the state. California, Ohio and Wyoming do not offer statewide searches. In this case, we verify criminal cases by county. Running a statewide criminal report will help uncover any criminal records you might miss by running only a county criminal check. It is important to cover areas that applicants may have commuted to for employment or education purposes.
Misdemeanors are state crimes that could result in a jail term of up to a year. For example, criminal searches in Connecticut that fall under this classification are simple assault, breach of peace, disorderly conduct, DUI, reckless driving, etc. Felonies are any state crimes that result in a jail term of at least a year and a day. Criminal searches in Connecticut that are identified as felonies are murder, burglary, aggravated assault, risk of injury to a minor, etc. Most states follow these same guidelines. Criminal searches in New Jersey classify crimes differently, and felonies are indictable offenses in New Jersey. Misdemeanors are defined as Disorderly Persons Offenses. A major distinction is the offenses can result in a maximum six months in jail, unlike misdemeanors, which carry a sentence of a year.
County criminal searches are one of the fundamental searches in any background screening report.
